Obama to visit Mexico and Costa Rica this week

President Obama will be visiting Mexico and Costa Rica this week, according to an article by CNN. Economic and trade ties will be topics of discussion in Obama’s scheduled meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto, the White House said.

This week’s meeting between Obama and Peña Nieto comes at a critical time for both presidents. Domestic reform efforts are underway in both the United States and Mexico. According to Antonio Garza’s article on Fox News Latino, the time is ripe to advance bilateral relations.

After years of unprecedented closeness forged by the deadly war against Mexican drug cartels, the Mexican government is expected to narrow U.S. involvement in security affairs. According to an article by the Los Angeles Times, Mexican President Peña Nieto wants to concentrate U.S. participation in areas such as the economy.
