“El Chapo” remains on top of Sinaloa cartel as drug-related violence continues in Mexico

A rumor started Thursday afternoon claiming Mexico’s Sinaloa drug lord Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzmán was killed. The rumor is false, but Keegan Hamilton said in an article for The Atlantic “El Chapo’s” death would hardly benefit anyone. Hamilton wrote killing kingpins wouldn’t stop or slow down Mexico’s drug cartels.

“El Chapo” has recently been dropped off Forbes magazine’s billionaires’ list after being on it for four years. According to an article by The Province, the drop came because Forbes couldn’t reach Guzmán to verify his wealth. The magazine also had suspicions that he spent a large chunk of money to protect him and his family.

A 13-year-old assassin for the Mexican drug cartel was murdered in central Zacatecas in Mexico, according to an article by CNN. The boy, named Jose Armando Moreno Leos, was arrested three weeks ago by the Mexican Federal Police. Leos told the police he had killed at least 10 people.
