A plan President Obama drafted for immigration reform was leaked to USA Today on Saturday, according to an article by The New York Times. The president’s plan would pave the way for illegal immigrants to work toward citizenship, although the plan couldn’t begin for another eight years. Republicans have countered his plan saying it is a waste of President Obama’s time.
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., said that President Obama’s plan for immigration “would be dead on arrival in Congress.” According to an article in the Huffington Post, Rubio said the president should have consulted Republican members of Congress before drafting an immigration plan.
The White House has defended the leak of President Obama’s immigration reform plan to USA Today by saying the draft was incomplete and wasn’t supposed to be leaked. White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough told CBS on “Face the Nation” that the White House wants to be prepared with their own immigration plan.
